About Us

How a fire that burnt down the entire business didn’t stop Bains trading FOR A SINGLE DAY!

newspaper_article.jpgAfter 25 years worth of family and company history the team refused to ‘roll over and die’ after a fire burnt down their entire premise in June 2006.

Bains was founded in 1950 when it operated as Adams Septic Tank Services. In 1983 Bains bought the business off the Adams. The Bains and Adams grandfathers fought together in World War 2. Bruce Bain, his wife Christine and cousin Donna Fleming and husband Brian own the business.

By 2004 they were in full swing servicing a wide range of septic tank, commercial, primary producing and tallow customers. Ever since they began trading (and still do) they have prided themselves on being a privately owned, community based and family run company - something that is becoming a rare occurrence these days.

On the 2nd of June 2006 a fire burnt down their entire premise - buildings, offices and factory. Still to this date they don’t have a 100% known cause for the fire. The only real good news from the fire was that the trucks were not too damaged in the fire otherwise it would have been the end of the family business and its 25 year history.

To rub salt into the wound they were devastated to find out they only had limited liability insurance and if they were going to rebuild from the ground up it was going to take a lot of blood, sweat and tears.

Despite the urge to give up they couldn’t let go of their 25 year history and decided that they had to pick themselves up and carry on. For the next 12 months they ran the business out of a leaking garage shed while their premise was rebuilt.

They were very fortunate and were grateful for the loyalty of their clients and although it was bloody hard they didn’t stop trading for a single day. In May 2007 they moved b
ack into their new building and offices and began rebuilding their plant. That was over a year ago now and they haven’t stopped moving since.
